Small and medium sized firms are now eligible for a free water-saving service from resource efficiency organisation WRAP called the Rippleffect.

The support package provides practical advice for businesses to help them understand how much water they use, identify simple ways to save water and money, measure their water and cost savings, and learn about “quick win” water saving devices.

Once registered, firms get access to online training modules, telephone support, web conferences and webcasts.

Large water users can already get support from Anglian Water Business to develop a tailor-made water strategy, which looks at ways to save water and drive unnecessary cost out of their operations.

The new partnership with WRAP is a way to offer all business customers access to expert water-saving advice, regardless of their level of consumption.

Kate O’Mahony from Anglian Water Business, said: “January is a time for resolutions, so why not pledge to cut your business’ water consumption?

“Doing so will also trim your bill and your carbon emissions; all measures vital to getting your company in shape for the challenges of the year ahead.

She added: “Anyone who has ever started a diet or joined a gym in January knows it can be a lot easier to stick to your good intentions if you have help and support. The Rippleffect offers businesses that support.”

Carl Nichols, head of business and markets at WRAP, said: “Businesses taking action on water efficiency can save around 30% on their water bills and help maintain security of supply.

“It’s not just manufacturers who benefit; offices can profit significantly from simple water reduction steps taken in kitchens and washroom facilities.

“For example, in companies where the urinals operate without flush control savings of nearly £4,000 a year in water and sewerage costs are possible by installing passive infrared sensors. This costs around £350.”

He added “Reducing water consumption also helps to reduce carbon emissions. For every cubic metre of water saved, companies can reduce their carbon footprint by around one kilogramme.”
