A member of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce’s Young Chamber initiative has been recognised for its achievements in bridging the gap between education and work.

Copleston High School in Ipswich has been named winner of the Education and Business Partnership category in the East of England regional round of the British Chambers of Commerce Awards, and now goes forward to the national final on November 30.

Shaun Common, principal of Copleston High School, received the award from Suffolk Chamber’s chief executive, John Dugmore.

David Leach, specialist director of sixth form at the school, said: “Copleston is delighted to have won this award and to receive the recognition for the work the school has done with employer engagement.

“As a school we understand and value the importance of providing our students with access to the business world to help prepare them for their next steps. Suffolk Chamber have been an invaluable support in the work we have done at the school and we look forward to developing this relationship further.”

Mr Dugmore added: “For many years Copleston has been at the forefront in bringing the world of business into the school to ensure that its pupils have the right skills and attitudes for their future careers. As a Young Chamber Plus member, the school has been able to take full advantage of Suffolk Chamber’s access to business expertise and insights.

“That is why this award is so richly deserved and, on behalf of everyone at Suffolk Chamber, we look forward to Copleston High School going on and getting the national recognition it deserves.”
