A FLEDGLING business which has applied technology from the security sector to create a new non-intrusive alert system to offer peace of mind for elderly people living alone, and their relatives, has been named winner of THE One contest for 2012.

Silent Partner, based at Takeley, near Great Dunmow, has been launched by Ray Higgs to market the A-OK care monitor which he originally developed using his experience in security to help look after his late father.

The monitor detects movement, non-movement and room temperature and compares findings with normal behaviour patterns. In the event of any variance, the system automatically sends an SMS text alert.

Unlike many systems, therefore, A-OK is not dependent on the vulnerable individual carrying an alarm button, although this is also available as an option.

Silent Partner was one of eight finalists, chosen from among an original total of more than 30 entrants, which were invited to pitch to THE ONE judges, who represented each of the 10 organisations which contributed to this year’s prize package of business support, worth £40,000.

The prize includes: PR consultancy from Voice Communications to the value of £5,000; design consultancy from Phelan Barker (£5,000); website consultancy from Rubious (£5,000); advertising in the EADT (£5,000), on-line marketing from Climbing Trees (£5,000); business consultancy from Angela Kimberley (£3,500); leadership and management coaching from Julie Clements (£3,500); legal support from Ellisons Solicitors (£3,500); accountancy advice and annual returns from LB Group (£3,000); and call answering services from MyRuby (£1,500).

The EADT will be reporting on the progress of Silent Partner over the coming year as the prize package is implemented.
