English wine adds a spark to Norwich-based Naked Wines’ sales
English wine appears to be putting the fizz back into the industry, as a Norwich-based seller saw sales in home-grown vintages rise by 16%.
Naked Wines has committed to investing £1m in homegrown wine after seeing sales soar for the year to July 2017, with English sparkling wine performing particularly well.
The country’s wine has been in the limelight recently with Surlingham winemaker Winbirri Vineyards winning the Decanter World Wine Awards best single varietal white wine earlier this year.
Eamon FitzGerald, managing director of EDP/EADT Top 100 firm Naked Wines UK, said: “People are voting with their taste buds, backing British businesses and winemakers pursuing their dreams.
“This has given us the confidence to commit £1m of investment into English wine.
“We’re very proud to be backing Britain.”
Naked Wines said London and the home counties accounted for 51% of the English wine drunk.
