The fifth-generation of a malting dynasty, Richard Simpson, is to become vice chairman of Simpsons Malt.
Richard, 40, has worked at the family-owned firm since 1998, and has held many posts, most recently HR director at the firm, which has operations in Norfolk, the North, and Scotland.
He will continue to work with chairman Simon Simpson and managing director Tim McCreath on developing the company’s strategic direction.
Richard’s father and Chairman, Simon Simpson said: “It gives me great pride to see Richard take on the role of Vice Chairman. His understanding of the business, having worked man and boy at Simpsons Malt, and his excellent people skills will stand him in good stead as he embarks on this next stage in his career.”
Married, with three daughters and living in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Richard was heavily involved in Simpsons Malts 150 year celebrations which took place in 2012. This important milestone for the company allowed Simpsons Malt to reinforce its heritage and positioning as “The home of good malt”, particularly in global markets.
Richard said: “I am very much looking forward to supporting my colleagues as we drive this business forward in line with our company values. Simpsons Malt has gone from strength to strength in the last 150 years and, with the backing of our stakeholders and shareholders, I relish the opportunity to play my part in its continued success.”
Richard’s interests include sports, film, music, beer and whisky.
