The event is being organised by risk management consultant Miles Vartan, who says the message is also relevant to any business with employees of use the roads in the course of their duties.

“The laws are changing and directors, transport managers and HR practitioners have to find the time to get themselves up to date,” he said. “It’s all part of the process of due diligence. They need to protect themselves and their companies, as well as employees and members of the public.”

The half-day seminar will offer insights into the widespread nature of substance abuse and the usually well-hidden behaviours of addicts. Vital information will be given on impending changes in the law in relation to drink and drug driving offences, with delegates hearing how to introduce a drug and alcohol policy, and the “do’s and don’ts” of testing.

Speakers at the event include founder of Focus 12, counsellor and government advisor Chip Somers, HR and cultural change leader Caroline Cotterell, specialist lawyer Tim Ridyard and drug testing expert David Mackenzie.

“People should go away with insight, knowledge and enough information to ensure compliance,” added Mr Vartan.

Places as the seminar, being held at the Orwell Hotel, Felixstowe, on Thursday, May 8, from 9am, cost £35. For further details and to register, visit www.milesvartan.co.uk/events .
