Ipswich: Customers left wondering if they’ll get their money back after sudden closure of waterfront restaurant the Quayside

A couple’s Valentine’s Day plans have been left in tatters after the closure of waterfront restaurant the Quayside.
And a “gutted” Jessie Williams admitted she has little hope of recovering what she is owed for what should have been a romantic meal with her partner. The waterfront bar and restaurant closed suddenly last Friday, despite having taken pre-paid bookings for its February 14 event.
Now Miss Williams, 22, from Phoenix Way in Stowmarket, is one of several people to be left wondering what will happen to her booking and more than £100 worth of vouchers.
Miss Williams, who is 33 weeks pregnant, got £150 in Quayside vouchers for Christmas from her family but the gifts now appear worthless.
She said: “It was our favourite restaurant. We just always really liked the varied menu and it was such a good atmosphere.
“I went on their website and tried to call them.
“We haven’t got in touch through the Quayside but we rang up their coffee shop [The Georgian Coffee Shop in Woodbridge].”
It was Miss Williams’ dad who got through to the shop and asked for owner Max Moussa who also ran the Quayside.
“He just apologised and said there was something about it’s part of a limited company so it’s not actually him who would need to pay it back,” said Miss Williams. “It doesn’t sound very likely that we will get it back.
“We’re gutted about the money but even more so that we won’t be able to use people’s Christmas presents. Our Valentine’s Day plans are ruined too.”
When contacted Mr Moussa said he was unable to make a statement at this stage but hoped he would be in a position to do so next week.
