Ipswich-based digital marketing agency Crafted has appointed Lorna Goodwin as senior account manager.

Lorna will work as part of Crafted’s expanding client services team to provide strategic advice and guidance to the agency’s growing customer base.

With more than 15 years’ industry experience, she will help to shape the ongoing digital marketing strategies of companies across East Anglia and beyond. Co-ordinating online projects for the likes of international boutique hostel chain Generator, commercial property giant Workspace and Woodbridge-based garden centre chain Notcutts, Lorna will work with clients to clearly communicate their messages through a range of digital channels.

Lorna joins Crafted from London creative agency Luminous Design. During her time in the capital, she managed large-scale design campaigns for the likes of National Express, the BBC and several FTSE 250 companies.

Lorna is joined by Lori Panzano, who recently left the BBC Motion Gallery in London to take on an account manager role.

: : Bury St Edmunds-based Beckett Financial Services has recruited a new consultant to help handle its pensions business. Stephen Mooney has joined the team to provide specialist advice on auto enrolment.

“Stephen has come from the group personal pensions team at Aviva,” said Nicola Prince. director of employee benefits.

“His work there enabled him to gain a huge amount of experience in planning and implementing auto enrolment, and so he is just what we were looking for.”

Stephen worked at Aviva for 11 years and spent three years specialising in pensions consultation.

“The introduction of auto enrolment has resulted in a large amount of extra work for HR and payroll departments,” said Stephen. “I’ve dealt with a variety of different companies and I’ve always enjoyed clarifying the process with employers and employees alike.”

Stephen’s practical experience is backed up with a Certificate in Pensions Auto Enrolment from the Pensions Management Institute in addition to other qualifications including a Diploma in Financial Planning.

“We wanted someone who could start working with our clients straight away,” added Nicola. “Stephen understands all the issues employers will be facing and is able to provide practical and qualified help.”

: : Adrian Norman has joined Lawford-based Rose Builders Ltd as estimator on its estimating and pre-contracts team.

Formerly with Brooks and Wood for more than 11 years, he brings with him a wealth of knowledge, skill and success in securing potential projects in the Essex and East Anglian construction market.

: : Patrick Spurgeon has been appointed as the new Bury St Edmunds store manager for East Anglian building supplies company Kent Blaxill.

Patrick, 52, has had extensive experience as a manager in the Suffolk buildings supplies trade, after starting his career as a cabinetmaker. The high point of his career came following the fire that devastated Windsor Castle when he was given the responsibility of building a new altar rail for the Queen’s private chapel.

“I am extremely pleased to welcome Patrick to the Kent Blaxill family,” said commercial director Ron McConnachie.

“Patrick is just what we need at our Bury branch. He is very much a people person and extremely focused on customer service. He has some keen ideas for the branch to enhance our offer and strengthen our position in Bury.”

Patrick said: “The job brings some new challenges for me and I will be looking to develop the business and to take the depot forward. There are a number of areas of the business I will be looking to build upon. In particular we are going to refurbish the glass area with a new display area and relaunch the DecXpress delivery van, so we can offer a more flexible service to our decorating customers.”

The Kent Blaxill Bury St Edmunds branch has 20 members of staff.

Outside of work Patrick, who lives in Ipswich, is a keen DIYer who is revamping his home. He also enjoys photography, walking and writing.

: : East Anglia-based recruitment firm Pure Resourcing Solutions has expanded its team of consultants at Ipswich.

Consultant Tom Blake recently joined Pure, specialising in temporary and interim finance recruitment across Suffolk. He brings seven years of experience working in the industry including both independent and specialist national recruitment companies.

Having supported a diverse range of employers from small and medium-sized enterprises to blue chip, Tom is passionate about offering a tailored and consultative service.

New consultant Laura Searle specialises in part-qualified and newly qualified accountancy recruitment across Suffolk and north Essex. With a law degree, post-graduate legal training, and time spent at an AIM-listed, market-leading company, Laura is contributing excellent industry knowledge, as well as commercial, transactional and relationship management experience.

Scott Woodrow is promoted from office manager and senior consultant to associate director.

Scott joined Pure in 2005 as part of a small team to set up the Ipswich office and has been successfully delivering senior finance recruitment and executive recruitment at board level for many of Suffolk’s most respected businesses. He joins Pure’s senior leadership team where he will contribute to its continued development in the East of England.

Pure employs 50-plus staff across four regional offices in Cambridge, Ipswich, Norwich and Chelmsford.

: : Seven new members have been appointed to the University Campus Suffolk (UCS) board in preparation for its move towards a new governance structure and gaining its own degree awarding powers as part of the institution’s independence project announced in March 2013.

A search and selection process was undertaken and six new independent members have been selected to join the board, along with student representation for the first time.

The seven additions to the UCS board include six new independent members: Erika Clegg, co-founder and creative head of Spring design agency; Paul Clement, chief executive of Ipswich Central; Fiona Hotston Moore, tax and business advisory partner and head of business development at chartered accountants Reeves; Mark Pendlington, group director of Anglian Water; Professor William Pope, chief executive and commercial co-founder of Microbial Solutions; and Paul Winter, chief executive of Ipswich Building Society.

Also joining the board will be Students Union president Ben Adofo.

UCS degrees are currently jointly validated by the University of Essex and the University of East Anglia, and in order for UCS to be granted Taught Degree Awarding Powers (TDAP) it needs to demonstrate that, as an independent Higher Education institution, it can be governed and managed effectively. The UCS board has therefore been broadened and expanded with the recruitment of new independent members.

Richard Lister, UCS provost, said: “Broadening the board’s membership will demonstrate that we can, and are, operating independently from UEA and University of Essex, and is a significant step towards overall independence.”
