Sudbury-based MEL Group has expanded again with the acquisition of Redmayne Engineering, which operates from two sites at Romsey and Lymington in Hampshire.

Redmayne is a precision engineering company specialising in the production of components for the aerospace, defence and allied industries, with a blue-chip customer base including Honeywell, Safran and Leonardo.

MEL Group said in a statement that the deal would expand its customer base in the aerospace, defence and industrial sectors and add to its engineering capabilities.

Redmayne’s services include CNC machining, milling and turning, grinding, honing, gun drilling, thread rolling, broaching and pressure testing.

The value of the transaction has not been disclosed but MEL said the deal represented its largest ever acquisition in terms of manpower, bringing 77 employees to the group.

MEL added that chairman Nick Smith, group chief executive Gary Harvey and director Nick Harvey were grateful to the former owners “for entrusting them with the future of Redmayne Engineering”.

In June this year, MEL announced the acquisition of Surrey-based Oldbury Engineering, which, like MEL, specialises in aircraft ground support equipment.
