The business community is being encouraged to get behind the “8 Days a Week” fundraising campaign for Suffolk Family Carers which is being spearheaded by BBC Radio Suffolk.

The campaign has a target of more than £500,000 to fund a new mobile family carers centre to assist the work undertaken by Suffolk Family Carers in supporting people around the county who are involved in caring for someone with an illness or disability.

Among the current fundraising initiatives is a “Business Card Challenge” which invites people to send their business card to Radio Suffolk − with a minimum donation of a £5 stuck to the back − in return for entry into a prize draw.

Prizes include an executive box for eight people at Portman Road for Ipswich Town’s game againist Wigan Athletic on Saturday, March 15, including refreshments and a signed shirt, and a meal for two at the Salthouse Harbour Hotel on the Ipswich Waterfront.

Cards, with the donation attached, should be sent to BBC Radio Suffolk, St Matthew’s Street, Ipswich, IP1 3EP. The closing date is Saturday, March 1.

Radio Suffolk presenter Mark Murphy, who also promoted the “seasonal sweaters” campaign in aid of the appeal last December, said: “At the moment we’ve raised just over £50,000 but we’ve got a long way to go.”

General donations to “8 Days a Week” can also made online at www.suffolk-carers.org.uk, by phone on 01473 835449 or by post to Units 6 & 8, Hill View Business Park, Claydon, Suffolk IP6 0AJ, with cheques payable to “Suffolk Carers Ltd”.

Online retail giant Amazon saw a 23% increase in global sales in the first quarter of 2017, the company has announced.

The UK economy endured a worse-than-expected slowdown in the first three months of the year as sliding retail sales and a jump in living costs took its toll on growth.

The East of England Co-op, the region’s largest independent retailer, has reported increased annual sales and trading profits, despite “challenging” competition.

Carlton Meres and Carlton Manor Park have new owners.

The UK economy is likely to have experienced a slowdown in the first quarter as inflation caused households to rein in their spending.
