Poundfield, which is based at Creeting St Peter, near Stowmarket, was commissioned by main contractor Hall Construction to supply 2,000 bespoke panels for sea defence work at Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, as part of a £36m seafront regeneration project.

Completion of the two main walls was time-critical, to allow work to be clear of beach level by winter. The second phase was a particular challenge as it involved stair access to the beach, ready for when the scheme is completed next year.

Poundfield director Tim Evans said: “In spite of the challenges of producing a myriad of one-off moulds, including a number of special coping units running up alongside the stairs, this tough task was achieved with a couple of days to spare.”

Stephen Bromley, business development manager at Hall Construction, said: “This scheme has been challenging for our site team, so the continued partnership working with Poundfield has certainly assisted us in progressing the works. I look forward to the project continuing throughout the winter period in preparation for a first quarter completion in 2018.”

Poundfield, which was founded in 1999, is best known for its Alfabloc retaining wall system but also includes a bespoke products division for projects such as that at Whitley Bay.
