Best grocer, delicatessan or farm shop 2006: La Hogue Farm Shop & Delicatessen, near Newmarket

On entering this shop, you get the feeling that its creation has been a real passion for its owners.

It has a buying policy firstly of quality, and then to source that quality as locally as possible.

There is a huge selection of home grown and locally sourced fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh meats and game, local dairy products and a delicatessen with over 80 predominantly British cheeses.

A large part of its uniqueness is its commercial farm kitchen.

With four full-time cooks and a full-time Masterbaker, homemade ready meals, cakes and pastries are baked on the property and then sold within the shop.

Eat Anglia is unique – the Eat Anglia café is located within the Eat Anglia shop at Earl Soham.

All of the produce served in the café is sourced directly from the shop and 70% of this produce is sourced locally.

Whether you fancy a quick sandwich or a more substantial “hot dish of the day” you can be assured that it will be of the highest quality and, more than likely prepared on site by one of their own chefs.
