Quiz Derek Davis live

Derek DavisThis is your chance to turn the tables on the EADT's Ipswich Town FC writer Derek Davis.

He's used to asking the questions at press conferences and top level meetings with players and managers, but now you can quiz him about what's going on with the Blues and football nationwide.

You can ask questions during the chat or post them in advance.

Drissa Diallo's Tracksuit Bottoms:

Re: Fabian Wilnis' imminent testimonial. Do you think he was a GREAT right back....or the GREATEST right back?

Reply:

Roberto Carlos might have a thing to say about that. Mick Mills wasn't bad either. Fab is an absolute legend and deserves not just a testimonial but 100 per cent backing from everyone. A terrific footballer and a gentleman to boot.

Graham Downes:

Question in advance as I'm at work tomorrow, is David Nugent still available, and what is his position in respect of injuries and Tony Adams? I think he's the last piece in our jigsaw. Not a popular thought I've no doubt but.....

Reply:

The way he has messed Town about you would have thought that is it but Jim does rate him and he is proven at this level. Nugent has played once since the cup final, as a sub against Hull and although he is fit and was on the bench yesterday, has hardly been in Adams's thoughts.

Graham Downes:

Second question - do you know how such as Lee, Williams and Roberts are doing at their new clubs?

Reply:

Roberts is doing best of the three at Huddersfield. He has five goals from midfield and is a regular. Williams is getting games but rarely does 90 mintes and he has scored once for Bristol City. Lee has had two halves for Palace and not played since September 20. It was great business for Town getting rid of him.

FRANK WESTON:

I predicted, as the harbinger of doom and gloom 1-1 but how I wish I was mistaken! Town derseved the trhee points on the balance of play I feel and et it feels, having been in the lead for so long, more like a defeat than a home draw against a team in the top six.

Reply:

You have to see out games if you are going to get anywhere.

FRANK WESTON:

I fancy Town to come back with all guns firing next week though against the Canaries. Hopefully Owen garven and Jon Walters will be back and I predict a 5-2 victory for Town! Now that is quite a brave statement don't you think!

Reply:

Norwich are a complete shambles right now so you could be right, but then again wounded tiger and all that.

FRANK WESTON:

If Town aachieve an emphatic win against Norwich then this could really kick-start their season. The Canaries will be up for it but like last season they were struggling at this stage and were lucky to manage a 2-2 draw at home against us.

Reply:

Whatever happens on Sunday I would not read too much into it. These are one off games that rarely have a big bearing on the season.

FRANK WESTON:

Oh and the goalscoreres for Town are as follows: Walters (2) Counago (1) Naylor(1) Lisbie(1) !!!

Reply:

Not sure about that, swap Naylor for Bruce maybe.

FRANK WESTON:

Bear in mind too Derek that if Walters fails to make it then I think the score-line could be a lot narrower.

Reply:

A wise caveat.

Damian Brannigan:

I have been a supporter of Magilton but Saturday was the final straw. His tatics and substitutions cost us 2 points and to add insult to injury then proceeded to laugh his way through the post match interview with Sky. As far as I am concerned the sooner he goes the better. I would love to know how many points we have dropped this season from a winning position.

Reply:

Too many to be healthy.

rory evans:

I totally agree with your assessment this morning that we are going to fall short for the seaon just as we did against Sheffield United, and indeed others already. I'm sorry to say this but Jim is not expereinced enough for a promotion campaign and really should have learnt his trade elsewhere and then maybe come back. It is time we got in someone that is capable of spending the money more wisely, has the contacts to get top players and has the tactical nous to see out games, or change to get something out of a match we are losing. Do you think Marcus Evans can see this yet or does he know nothing about football at all?

Reply:

We don't know much about ME but it has to be fair to say he knows very little about football.

Jamie Lamond:

we all know we need a striker in the summer. In my opinon we should try get beckford here in Jan cos we lack that killer instect up front at the moment, saturday's game was a example of it. Final thing i am going to say is who do you think town should get if they was going to look at the striker department in Jan

Reply:

Heskey is out of contract. Next summer. Nugent, as Graham pointed out, would do a job. I feel it has to be someone proven at top Championship level or Premer league quality. Look at Bent and Phillips at Birmingham.

Steve B:

One positive from Saturday was the performance of the Centre Backs. One of the few occasions this season when we have looked solid there. A concern is that has taken so long to get to this point, even though many observers have considered that this was the best pairing since August. It does seem to take us ages to work out what our best pairings are, and whether these partnerships are of the requisite standard, in the meantime a number of clubs have pushed ahead and we are playing catch up. Also don't thet=y teach players to run down the clock these days. Having retreated as far as possible for the latter stages we just seemed to kick for touch, and even when we did make a foray upfield (e.g. Volz) we just gave the ball away rather than make for the corner and hold it there.

Reply:

There is a fine balance between playing for time and attacking for a second to make sure. It backfired on Saturday as I'm not sure the message as to what was required was clear.

FRANK WESTON:

I see your point Derek but my felling is that a handsome win against their old rivals away from home would be a massive confidence boost even if the Canaries are really struggling just now. Furthermore, coming before a host of Christmas fixtures this could have a real impact on their chances of a play-off place.

Reply:

A good win always helps and if they get the victory that they should, but remember how Town usually get on against bottom clubs, then they need to follow it up against Bristol City.

Gary Jackaman:

Do you feel given the clubs recent form that Ipswich can get promotion via the play-offs?

Reply:

It is possible but it is going to be more difficult than assumed at the beginning of the season.

FRANK WESTON:

I suppose there is a risk that this fiercly fought derby furore has gone to my head but that said, I would be interested to know what other people think.

Reply:

I'm sure people are getting geared up now and will let us know today or Thursday how they feel.

London Blue:

With David Norris fined by the FA for his 'celebration' and Chris Morgan receiving no further punishment for fracturing a fellow pros skull. how can the FA justify this and do you have any contacts to ask the question why this terrible inconsistency? I believe Norris should have been fined but Morgan's crime really puts what norris did on the pitch into perspective - insensitive as it was.

Reply:

I covered this in my saturday column in the EADT. Basically the rule is as the referee dealt with Morgan at the tie with a booking no further action could follow unless they deemed there were 'exceptional circumstances' and they decided there was not. Contact the FA via their websitre and register your protest.

FRANK WESTON:

Returning to last Saturday I don't blame Jim for his tactical switch in bringing on Richard Nalor when he could have gone for another attacking option in Danny Haynes. At the time I thought it was a wise move and it is easy in hindsight to be critical. I am sure not every supporter would agree with me but I feel that Jim Magillton is progressing nicely in his job and certainly the defence has improved out of all recognition of late which is a major plus!

Reply:

They could do with more clean sheets.

FRANK WESTON:

I still hold the view that if Town finish in the play-off places - even if it is in sixth place which is at this moment the most likely, then it will be percieved by most fans as a significant improvment because the play-offs - whatever their pitfalls provide great end of season spectacles and instill some belief too. Coming seventh however would be a huge anti-climax and would put Jim under immense pressure.

Reply:

At least Jim will have had three full years in trying to get them up.

Simon Braddy:

Roberto Carlos was a left back wasn't he? My mate thinks you're a Newcastle fan DD, are you? I thought it was a secret?

Reply:

Couldn't possibly say. LoL

Richard Hibbert:

Just on Richard Wright he is looking like we expected and although sharp was offside what a triple save that was word class.

Reply:

The save from Kilgallon's header was amazing too. And that would have counted. It makes all the difference when his all round game is on top form.

FRANK WESTON:

yes , you are right Derek and he may need three eyars too! We can all suffer from delusions of grandeur but reality tells me that it is far better that Town wait three years and go up with a Town team that can stay up there then do a Derby or WBA and get there confidence knocked to shreads before a quite return to football oblivion. Look at Leeds for example...They lost to part-timers Histon at the weekend and are still a league below us!

Reply:

The Leeds situation is totally different as they were an established PL side, in the Champions League before they blew up. West Brom looked to me to be the most likely to do well after going up as champs, yet we can see what has happened by trying to play classy football.

Simon Braddy:

You've got to at least settle it...so you haven't said you're a newcastle fan then as it's a secret?! I disagreed with Jim's subs on Sat as well, I thought Naylor was gonna come on up front which would have been better. However, if Quinn hadn't have handled we would have won so it's a bit harsh to blame the subs...in terms of tactics, not Quinn being on the field! Haynes would have been the ideal sub by the way, his pace on the break may have killed the game like against sheff u last season or the season before. Lisbie got the ball in a good position but didn't have the confidence to knock it past the defender and run

Reply:

If Town had held on then the subs would not have been mentioned because as you say it was a soft pen to concede and I'm not sure swapping Naylor for Miller made all that difference except it possibly allowed more room in midfield. H'way The Lads.

Richard Hibbert:

Just a note on your video. I think Jim watched it a took your technique of laughing through:-) I enjoyed the video and think its a good idea, but who came up with the location... pouring rain next to the bus depot:-)

Reply:

Not the best was it? Still it was a first time effort and hopefully we can get it better next time. Though I can't promise I will get the score right again - ever.
