A dance to the music of signs

The Land of Yes and the Land of No, Bonachela Dance Company, Jerwood DanceHouse, Ipswich, March 19 2010

Sweet Clementine

My Darling Clemmie, by Hugh Whitemore, Hayworth Theatre, Ipswich High School, Woolverstone, Thursday March 11

A sumptuous feast of art

Mary Fedden, Patrick George, Nicolas Pratt, and Gay Strutt are showing at Hintlesham Hall until April 15. The show is curated by Cobbold & Judd. Not even Suffolk's own Maggi Hambling, who attended the private view, sporting one silver and one lilac tooth could eclipse the beauty of the paintings on the wall.

A piece of classic theatre

84, Charing Cross Road, Open Space Theatre, Halesworth Cut, March 5 and on tour Eagerly embracing more challenge, Open Space Theatre take on a play based on a 20 year exchange of letters, between a rising American writer and the staff of a London bookshop.

Shakespeare dancing to a new tune

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare at Colchester Mercury until March 13. This is one not to be missed - a big adventure with the Bard's star-cross'd lovers, featuring an Argentinian tango orchestra that dominates the stage and a play pumped with action that owes a deal more to West Side Story than to ancient Verona.

Classic ballet a class act

Giselle, music by Adolph Adam, the Russian State Ballet of Siberia, Regent Theatre Ipswich, Friday 26th February 2010

Glorious theatrical chaos

Noises Off by Michael Frayn, New Wolsey Theatre until March 13 Peter Rowe, the New Wolsey's artistic director, could be described as something of an alchemist.

The Joke-a-motive steams into Colchester

Tim Vine, Colchester Arts Centre, February 23, then touring. AFTER more than an hour of watching Tim Vine's latest offering, The Joke-Amotive, I emerged in a dream-like state.

Imaginative fairytale style fantasy

The Long Way Home by Charles Way - Eastern Angles opening night at Aldeburgh, February 17 - then touring. It is unusual for this company to perform a play not specifically written for them - the only other time in fact was another Charles Way play - In the Bleak Midwinter, back in 2000.

Tragedy meets bawdiness in Venice

The Merchant of Venice, Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds, until February 27 SHAKESPEARE offers directors and actors alike an awful lot to go at. Every scene, every line invites different interpretations and spurs to action.
