Eyes a popping in Ipswich
Verdi's classic opera Rigoletto has always been one of the most raunchy in the repertoire, but last night . . . well, would you believe it, the audience was served up a treat of boobs, bums and full frontal nudity as the Duke of Mantua declared his personal creed of taking pleasure as and when he can find it. All this and fabulous music, singing and tremendous set design into the bargain gave opera goers at the Ipswich Regent a wonderful treat.
It's art of course, and the colleague of mine who firmly insists that opera is "poncey rubbish" might now have a different opinion if he had watched the delights on offer.
