The comrades arrive in Manchester

WELL its Sunday morning and its p***ing down. Good old Manchester. Yesterday was fine and sunny for the train journey from Euston, but today of course the heavens have opened.

Any Tories reading this, please take note. The facilities in the GMEX Centre -the former Central Station of the Midland line in the good old days of railway travel - are excellent. Why are you still messing around going to Blackpool? Regenerated cities are excellent conference venues, and I'm assured the natives don't bite, but don't mention Margaret Thatcher!

The comrades are out in force to bury good old Julius. Gordon’s stuck two fingers up at Julius and Patricia by proposing an independent board looks after the NHS, away from the meddling, reforming zeal that is the hallmark of the now discredited Blairites.

Don’t be surprised if Julius is airbrushed out of the Brownite’s New History of the Labour Party.

Met an interesting and delightful couple on Richard Branson’s tilting Pendalino yesterday from Euston – Maureen Tomison and husband David. Both pro-European left wing Tories who admired Ted Heath and Ken Clarke but chucked in the Conservative Party when IDS and the right wingers took over the asylum.

She’s an ex-speech writer for Mrs T and stood for the Tory cause in Norwich in 1974. In 2005, Maureen stood for Labour against Michael Howard in Folkestone and formed an instant dislike for the Lib Dems’ negative campaigning.

Their son's godfather is our very own John Gummer.  She’s a former lobby correspondent for the Bristol Evening Post, The Sun (in the days before Murdoch) and the Daily Sketch.

Good for them.

Hello there,
Dressing for dinner.
I was talking with a Torygraph journalist earlier and I was telling him that if the PM stood up and said, to the party faithful, would you like me to stay on and past the next election? Well looking at those in the Hall today, I think it would be a Yes please Squire.
The journalist thought it would be fun to put such a statement to the test.
I have only just noticed how much GB nods his head.and how the ear lobes turn a bright red. I was that close.
Graham, i see the TalkSport radio station has been giving that Bob Russell some good air time
You mention IDS, how that man ever got to be the Tories leader is a marvel.Out of house though a real charmer. Lovely fellow.
Should have been in Broadcasting.
A relative of mine was in the services with him.
Say no more.
Bye for now.

Maureen sounds very interesting, your journey must have been over in a flash. I imagine she has some very interesting conversations with John Gummer, I bet she would write a good blog.

I posted about Bob Russell on my site too and will be checking out your week. It's raining here too, btw, though yesterday was glorious.

If you see my friend Stephen Cape from the Beeb, say hi from me, we trained at Harlow together.

Bob Russell doesn't talk to me. He doesn't like anyone taking the Mick.

A nodding donkey for for PM? A delicious thought!
Just for the hell of it, why don't we meet this week?

Hello there,
It looks as though GB has been listening to what the PM had to say to him, prior to this AM speech.
I am told the emails coming in are not very supportive for GB
I am waiting on some journalists from the heavies. The Sundays.
Nearly forgot. Kinnock is here.
I remember when he was leader, everyone saying you could do better. How right they were.
Bye for now
