A federal UK is the answer

SO the English are starting to rebel against all the gross ingratitude of the Scots, who have been given their own Parliament, take millions of pounds out of English taxpayers, and have their MPs at Westminster voting on legislation affecting England only.

According to a Sunday Telegraph poll today, a majority of English people are quite prepared for Scotland to go her own sweet way.

If they want to clear off. let them.  England will cope, but I suspect the Scots will flounder as taxes soar to compensate for their lack of English subsidies.

It's Labour's fault. It will be Tony Blair's legacy if the UK breaks up. A half baked constitutional settlement which ignored England.

Labour desperately needs Scottish - and Welsh - MPs. Without them, Labour would not have won the 2005 and would not be sustained in power by the Celtic fringe.

Although whingeing Scots p... me off, especially when they won't back English sporting teams in world tournaments, I really favour a federal UK. Four home nation parliaments with the same powers - none of this nonsensical English regions - with Westminster having fewer MPs and resposnible only for defence, foreign affairs, customs and revenue items, social security, anti-terrorism, policing and a national transport policy.

Fair and equitable.

I love the Scottish scenery, but I'm fed up to the back teeth of the hostile atttude by Scots men and women to the English, whoprovidethm with meal ticket.
If they want to go, let them. It'll also destroy the Labour Party - what a delicious prospect.

Will this add any extra clout to your local campaign to have St Edmund as the patron saint of England? You'll certainly be kept busy if you have four home parliaments to flit between!

# What price the eastern region?

I'd be interested in Graham's view on how a federated England would affect the current divvying up of the country into regions, leaving us with the squalid leftovers and putting us in the same box at the moment as Luton and the wilds of Hertfordshire, wherever that is. Might a federated England allow us to become more coherently East Anglia?

As to the Scots, I reiterate everything already said. Wodehouse memorably wrote that it is never difficult to spot the difference between a ray of sunshine and a Scotsman with a grievance. I wonder who they would blame for their grievances without the English.

And another thing, young Dines has a very nice little sinecure swanning off to London and pretending he's working. I see a former EADT political editor is now chief political correspondent of the Guardian. Thank god young Dines doesn't harbour such ambitions.

At last we the 'English' are waking up to the political and financial inequalities of government. For too long we have allowed our neighbours from hell far too much prominence not only in government but also in the media. Now is the Time for England...a Time for England to determine its own future.

May 1 will see the 300th anniversary of the last time England was allowed its own Parliament.

A march entitled "Justice for England," will be held that day in London. Be there and let the government know that we will not allow them to erase England from the map of the UK, nor will we tolerate the deliberate death sentences handed to English cancer sufferers, for want of some ELEVEN cancer drugs which English taxes pay for, for Scotland, Wales and NI, but the government deny to the English themselves!!

This government is the sickest on record. Get rid of them and get our own Parliament.

I cannot see the purpose of a Federal 'U'K for England. Would you kindly enlighten me?

A federal UK's only purpose is to restore the democratic balance to the nation. We cannot withdraw Scottish or Welsh devolution - there'd be riots on the streets of Edinburgh and Haverfordwest - so we have to do something to restore democratic accountability for England in the era of post devolution settlement.
I would rather devolution had never happened, but we are where we are, and something has to be done to stop English only laws being enacted at the whim of non-English MPs.
