Dave switches to the left

IN the great scheme of things, David Cameron's change of hair parting seems highly insignificant. But when every aspect of the life of our leading politicans comes under the microscope, it assumes hugely significant importance.

Was the move from right to left full of political symbolism? Was it some form of metrosexual significance? Or was it a subtle bid to reach out to women voters?

The truth, however, is that our Dave's shift in hair parting - in time for this weekend's Tory spring conference in Nottingham - has not been stage managed at all.

He was persuaded to make the change by a hairdresser he had never visited before in North Kensington, near his Notting Hill town pad. Dave, who usually uses the barber on duty in the House of Commons, popped in to the Hair Salon in St Helens Gardens with his children to supervise their hair styles.

The barber politely told Dave that his parting was "on the wrong side." It should be on the left, not the right. So Dave had his hair changed, and it cost him all of a tenner.

A bargain indeed in London. I wish I could get my diminishing locks coiffeured in Ipswich for that price. I think I'll be heading for St Helens Gardens next week, this is if I can beat back the queue of minted bankers, share dealers, and currency speculators.

And just for the record, my hair has always been parted on the left . . .
