Time to clamp down on Felixstowe's anti-social truckers

IF there's one thing that gets me all heated up while driving is container truck overtaking each other on dual carriageways, and taking an age to pass leading to congestion behind them.

Lorries should be banned from overtaking lanes. Because of their speed limiters, it can take five minutes for one lorry to pass another. And what does it achieve? - they simply get to the greasey spoon a few minutes ahead of other truckers.

The A14 is particularly prone to this anti-social driving. I'm happy to join Felixstowe town council and others in calling for the boys in blue to start prosecuting more truckers. If the drivers are in danger of losing their licences, and thus their livlihoods, it might make them act with more consideration for other road users.

As a Trucker - well, horsebox driver - I would agree re some drivers driving without due consideration for other road users.

Of course, LGV's (HGV's) should travel a max of 50 mph on dual carriageways BUT drivers are probably under pressure of time - not just to get to the cafe.

If drivers do not complete their work in the time Bosses allow they might be sacked AND the Ministry will not help them get their jobs back : equally if they break the sundry driving regulations for the same reason.

Possibly the only way to ensure lorries travel legally is to have 24 hour ministry checks. It would also be a good idea for tachographs to be checked on board ship for all travelling through ports to see that drivers are driving legally, especially re hours of work and requisite rest.

Of course, lorries should travel a max of 40 mph on single carriageways .. which would make the A11 even slower than it is now.

Probably a greater danger on roads are "amateur" eg weekend drivers .. I would rather drive on the M25 during the week when more drivers know what they are doing than on saturday or sunday afternoon.
