Wine o'clock

There are some divisive subjects when it come to motherhood...

C-section or the 'camel through the eye of a needle' method?

Breast or bottle feed?

Attachment parenting or controlled crying?

Work or SAHM (stay at home mum)?

Some of these are down to individual choice, some are down to circumstance, some are a mixture of both.

But all can be debated at great length - just look at any parenting website forum and you will get the picture.

So how about a less controversial subject - what time is wine o'clock?

Wine o'clock - an expression which has even got a mention in the Urban Dictinary - being the time it is considered okay to treat yourself to that first cheeky 'grape juice' of the day.

I posed this question to the girlie mums who have helped keep me sane for the last six years and unlike some parenting debates it was answered pretty much with one voice...

"It's 6pm when the kids bums hit the bathwater - however on a bad days it is Jack Daniels o'clock at 5pm when they are happy eating their tea. Ps At weekends it is Pimms o'clock at noon."

"Wine o'clock is whatever time I get in from work...."

"Wine o'clock co-incides with cooking - lunch or evening - you need to open the wine to let it breathe and then should try it, just in case."

A worryingly sensible reply began..."glass of Pinot after 8pm on a Friday as now I am in my thirties it helps to keep my weight down"...but ended more realistically...."obviously this does not happen all the time hee hee".

But I will finish with my personal favourite.

"When the children are eating tea - but if neccessary it is fine to give them tea at 4pm."
