Once again, one of our beautiful spruce trees (comprising over 30 years of growth) has been destroyed by some cheap hoodlum in pursuit of cheap thrills.
During the course of last weekend a stolen car was joy ridden around Chantry Park at night, placed beneath the trees and ignited, with the clear intention, and effect, of causing maximum damage to the parkland.
In this particular incident (not the first) the stolen vehicle was positioned deliberately beneath the conifer and ignited, which flame has spread to a second tree as the burning vehicle rolled backward into it.
It is a commonplace to hear the noise of overhead helicopters searching lucklessly for these desolate pleasure seekers, I think it is time a more effective approach was applied, on the ground, with a view to placing these stricken individuals behind bars for their crimes of car theft, arson and wilful destruction of public property.
Where are the police when you need them ?
