Has anyone else noticed the sudden increase in aircraft noise over north east Suffolk? I live in Rendlesham and until recently we hardly ever heard a commercial flight. Just lately it has been every few minutes.
I wrote to Stansted airport to ask if it is connected to the NATS proposal that you may have seen on the news but they claim that there has been no change.
If any of you have knowlege about this I would appreciate it. The NATS proposal says it will fly aircraft over this area every two minutes so I'm guessing that it will soon be twice as noisy as it is now.
Their reasoning is that they will take the planes away from built up areas and move them to lightly populated areas. This is a daft idea. In busy towns you don't notice them because of the ambient noise. If you come to the Suffolk coast for a nice quiet day out, you certainly will.
I,m sorry but this so called aircraft noise is getting out of hand,There is a reader who regularly writes into our local community news magazine complaining of the "thunder of the aircraft".Yes there are plenty of planes going over our area but really it does seem certain peole are over reacting to this. You can,t even hear the planes when a car or lorry goes past and the planes are not as loud even when it is quiet(atleast where i live anyway between near Copdock).
I personally think noise from cars and lorries is a worse problem,Also,It,s funny how people moan about the passenger aircraft being noisy yet no-one complains about the Apache gunships, Lynx and Gazelle helicopters from Raf Wattisham that regularly fly over Hadleigh,Copdock etc.
Personally as a military buff and aviation buff in general,i dont mind this at all but why just pick on the airlines??I also trust the people who are against the noisy planes never use them to go abroad etc? I understand everyone has their opinion on this but if you think there too loud try living in an area such as Egham or Staines in Surrey(Heathrow flightpath/runways minutes away).Suffolk has it pretty quiet really.
No need to apologise, I dont disagree with you. I am just trying to get to the bottom of why the sudden apparent increase and what the post NATS effect will be.
I used to live just past Sudbury in north Essex. Unknown to me the long-planned Abbot stack was suddenly implemented and I can assure you that that those planes were very loud, especially at first. I think they altered things after lots of complaints. Having moved to a quiet part of the country I would hate for it to go the same way here.

Not at all and i was using my area as my guide.I think it,s one of those issues where it will be a divided topic,From my point of view as an aircraft buff both civil and military,i do actually enjoy watching the planes and the noise does,nt bother me at all.I feel for the people who have to be moved or rehoused due to airport exspansions etc but the ones i really get annoyed with are the ones who move next to an airport and then complain that it,s noisy !!
Unfortunately i also think it,s a losing battle for the anti aircraft stacking zones/flight path protestors, trying to stand back from my plane spotting bias for a second,i just feel the corparate side will beat the little man at the end of the day.I,m sure if i was,nt so pro aircraft i,d be as fuming as most but alas i,m not :)
Thanks for the reply though
