The Galley

This family run restaurant in the heart of the town offers fine dining in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Serving the best speciality international cuisine, this delightful period restaurant is run by Turkish chef/patron Ugur Vata, who has made Suffolk his home for over 20 years and shares his passion for food by using only the best and freshest of ingredients.

The Anchor

Traditional quayside pub The Anchor is a favourite with both locals and visitors to the town, serving quality food as well as great range of ales. The pub’s menu is a mixture of English staples such as Proctors St Edmund’s sausages and slow roast Dingley Dell pork, and more exotic offerings such as Malaysian chicken curry with basmati rice, or aromatic duck filo parcels. The owner, Vernon Blackmore, also runs The Table restaurant just up the road, as well as the touring Duck Truck.

The Red Lion

At the end of the Thoroughfare, dog friendly pub The Red Lion offers a fantastic range of freshly prepared pub favourites as well as traditional roasts on Sundays. From within its grade II listed building, which still possesses many of its original features, food is matched with an excellent selection of traditional ales, wines, cocktails and a growing range of craft beers.

The Riverside

Not only can you watch the latest films and performances at The Riverside, you can also dine on succulent lunches, candlelit suppers and a range of inventive menus. Found in The Good Food Guide, as well as being Michelin listed, the restaurant’s buys its produce as locally as possible, while its bread and pasta is freshly made by its chefs.

Honey + Harvey

This stylish, independent café on the Throughfare serves a large variety of teas and coffees, as well as tasty salads, delicious sandwiches and indulgent cakes and pastries. Whether you’re popping in for a quick lunch, or are setting up camp with your laptop and plenty of coffee, the atmosphere at Honey + Harvey is calm and relaxed, welcoming visitors no matter how long they intend to stay.

The Old Mariner

The Old Mariner is a place to relax, socialise and enjoy good quality beer and no-frills, tasty pub lunches - warm up by the fire in winter, or chill in the sunny beer garden in the warmer months. The lunch menu includes freshly made sandwiches, homemade soups and heartier meals such as ham egg and chips, chilli con carne and winter casseroles, as well as traditional pub snacks including sausage and onion puff pastry slices and marinated olives. The pub is also the go-to spot for local music, including DJs, open mic nights and live bands, as well as all manner of other events.

The Table

The Table is another successful dining spot of Vernon Blackmore’s. Receiving great reviews, the restaurant prides itself on its fresh ingredients and tapas style options, with every meal guaranteeing diners great tastes and flavours.

East Coast Diner

Despite only being a short walk from the river Deben, the Diner’s Brooklyn-style burgers, Big Apple hot dogs, thick milkshakes and glamorous cocktails will have you feeling like you’re right across the pond in bustling New York City. There’s also plenty of live music and entertainment, especially on Friday nights!

The Crown

This townhouse inn and boutique hotel’s take on dining is one of the main reasons guests visit, and with its well-stocked bar is the reason guests return time and time again. The bar offers everything from Italian prosecco fizz on draught to local Adnams ales and Aspall Suffolk cider, while the food menu includes options such as pheasant breast wrapped in bacon, braised beef cheeks in red wine and twice baked parmesan soufflé.

The Royal Bengal

The menu at The Royal Bengal includes a great selection of Indian dishes such as tandoori chicken, lamb tikka, galina xacutti, prawn balchao, baigan bharta, and more.
