Archant photographer Sarah Lucy Brown has once again drawn on the inspiration of her home county for an annual exhibition celebrating the first 24 hours of the new year.

Each year for the past 11 years, Sarah and 23 other photographers who met while studying at Central St Martin’s in London, have produced an exhibition of 24 photos documenting the first day of the year.

Each individual is tasked with capturing a single moment within their allotted hour, creating a unique collection of images and they hope their venture will continue for 24 years.

Sarah’s photo, of a sandbag at Thorpeness, was taken at 8am on January 1 and shows the efforts to protect the town from the pre-Christmas tidal surge that battered the Suffolk coast.

It is a one of six from the 24photography show that will be auctioned off in aid of Hopes and Homes for Children, an international charity working to ensure all children have the chance to experience life in a loving family.

Sarah, who has worked for the EADT and Ipswich Star for six years, said: “I have always enjoyed photographing seascapes. Living in Suffolk, I regularly visit places such as Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and Felixstowe, and I’m often spoilt for choice with what I can shoot.

“This year’s photo explores that love of the sea, shooting on a long exposure to create a dream-like quality. I’m delighted with the end result. There is a stillness and serenity to the photo that creates a sense of calm - in contrast to the windy and blustery conditions of that morning.”
