Live music has launched on some train journeys in our region, have your say on what you would like to hear on your commute by taking part in our poll.

Commuters travelling through the Essex countryside will notice something different about their journey this evening, August 3.

The Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership has teamed up with train operator Greater Anglia to host special evening music trains.

Live music will take place on board trains from Marks Tey to Sudbury and back again at 6.08pm, 6.37pm, 7.14pm, 7.38pm, 8.05pm and 8.32pm.

Oscar and Luca Ryland and vocalist Effie Lawrence will be providing pop and instrumental entertainment to passengers aboard these trains.

Jayne Sumner, community rail partnership officer, said, “We’re really excited to put on music trains for the first time between Marks Tey and Sudbury. “These events have proved popular in other parts of the country so we really hope that everyone will enjoy the music, which should create a lovely atmosphere on board.”

If the pilot event is a success, it is hoped more music trains will follow throughout the year featuring a wide mix of local groups and musical styles.

Tonight’s live music train will depart at Marks Tey and call at Chappel & Wakes Colne and Bures and Sudbury.

Scheduled service trains are being used for the music trains and passengers will require a normal rail ticket for the journey which can be purchased as usual from stations or the conductor on board. There is no additional charge above the current train fare to join the Music Train event.
