An exhibition showcasing the “amazing and unusual” photography produced by Suffolk sixth form students will go on display at a community-owned arts centre next month.

Stowmarket High School’s The Young Photographers exhibition will offer visitors to the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts a chance to view the “extraordinary” talents of the sixth form students, aged 16-18.

Photographer Gillian Allard has guided the students in their work, helping them to explore their own ideas with camera and software skills.

The John Peel Centre, in Church Walk, Stowmarket, has offered to put on the show free of charge.

Centre manager Matt Abercrombie said: “The work is amazing and so unusual, we are really pleased to encourage the local arts initiatives and display local young talent.”

Head teacher Dave Lee-Allan added: “The quality of photographs is extraordinary.

“I would like to personally encourage everyone to come down and take advantage of this fabulous free event which showcases the amazing talent that is being harvested at Stowmarket High School”.

The exhibition opens on June 24, with a private viewing, and will then be open to the general public on the following two days.

Visitors will be able to buy the works, while businesses are invited to sponsor the initiative.
