Bellowhead returned to Ipswich bigger, bolder and brassier than ever to liven up a quiet Sunday night at a packed and enthusiastic Regent.
From the very young – to the not so young, Bellowhead engaged with the crowd right from the off with humour and a little bit of topical sarcasm…what was great was that although John Boden was clearly the linchpin, the rest of the band had their say too.
The talent on stage was inspiring, with many of the musicians playing two, if not more instruments during the concert.
The 11-piece multi-instrumental band drew heavily on tunes from their last two albums, Broadside and Hedonism, the highlights being Byker Hill, Roll the Woodpile Down, the infectious New York Girls and their haunting version of Jacques Brel’s Amsterdam. Interspersed with these songs were many jigs and reels, which had the whole crowd on their feet.
Led by singer and fiddle player Jon Boden, Bellowhead never fail to deliver.
