C & K Meats, in Eye, processes and supplies quality meat to prestige food service firms, fine dining restaurants, hotels, butchers, wholesalers and farm shops. Brothers Chris and Kevin Burrows launched the business in 1994 and spent eight years developing their 40,000sq ft plant.

They employ 100 workers and have a turnover of £18million. In March 2013, it was already exporting into Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands and Kevin contacted UKTI about expanding into Asia. UKTI recommended it its Passport to Export scheme.

The firm secured a UKTI Tradeshow Access Programme grant that enabled it to exhibit at HOFEX - the largest food and hospitality trade show in the Asia-Pacific region in Hong Kong. As a result, it has secured orders worth around £100k and its products are in some five-star hotels, entertainment complexes, airlines and The Hong Kong Club – a prestigious gentleman’s club.

“Meeting potential distributors face-to-face was crucial for our expansion as Asian clients are more inclined to buy from people they have met and feel they can build trusted and honest relationships with,” said Kevin.
