JOHN Willan, a leading figure in the music industry, has been appointed as a Visiting Professor at Anglia Ruskin University’s Lord Ashcroft International Business School.
Professor Willan, who has joined Anglia Ruskin for an initial period of three years, is a qualified chartered accountant. However, following a music degree from the University of Edinburgh and postgraduate study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, he joined EMI as a classical record producer.
He then became managing director of the London Philharmonic Orchestra before moving to the BBC to build a music business for its commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, which encompassed CD and DVD distribution, radio and TV arts sales, and music publishing.
Professor Willan left BBC Worldwide in 2000 to join Cambridge-based management agency Hazard Chase as chairman, a role he held until August last year.
For the past seven years he has been chairman of the International Artist Managers’ Association, the only worldwide association of classical music managements, and is also a governor of the Royal Academy of Music in London and chair of its audit committee.
Professor Willan said: “It is absolutely the right moment for me to share the experience, contacts and knowledge I have been lucky enough to amass so far, with those who aspire to excellence in their forthcoming careers, and I am excited at the prospect of being able to do so as part of the developing team at the Lord Ashcroft International Business School.”
Dr Rob Willis, director of research at the Lord Ashcroft International Business School, said: “It is envisaged that John will play an important role in helping the Lord Ashcroft International Business School focus its scholarship and research agenda. : : HOPKINS Homes, one of East Anglia’s largest independent new homes builders, has announced its fifth new appointment of the year.
Catherine Higgs has joined the customer care department as a customer care co-ordinator after spending the past four years in property and occupant management.

: : LYNN Higgins has joined Ipswich-based Ransomes Jacobsen as UK regional sales manager for industrial vehicles. Reporting to Chris Buckle, the company’s business development manager – vehicles, she will be responsible for the UK sales of the Cushman and MEGA branded industrial products. Allied to this, Lynn will also be responsible for integrating existing MEGA dealers into the business and concentrating on expanding the dealer network to provide additional touch points across the UK.
For the past four years she has been working in a similar sales role with Facelift GB Ltd, one of the UK’s leading independent suppliers of powered access equipment and prior to this worked with other local and regional plant hire related companies.
Commenting on her appointment, Chris Buckle said: “Lynn has a wide knowledge of the industrial vehicle sector through hire plant hire experience and will be a great asset as we ramp up our sales and marketing activity of the Mega range of eco-friendly vehicles and our Cushman industrial vehicle range.
“She is a proven sales management specialist who will, I’m sure, help us achieve greater penetration into the industrial sector as we grow this particular market. She is yet another excellent addition to the sales team here at Ransomes Jacobsen.”
: : SEQUENCE Land has appointed Andy Gledhill to the position of land partner. Andy brings over 11 years’ experience in land sales and acquisitions to his new role and will be covering south Suffolk and Essex on behalf of Sequence’s national network of land centres.
Having worked for both national and regional developers in the East of England, Andy can assist Sequence’s developer clients with advice and expertise on land acquisitions.
He has experience identifying and securing development opportunities for private and mixed-tenure housing, and a detailed understanding of housebuilders’ needs and requirements, whether they are smaller, local developers or national providers.
“I am thrilled to take on the role of land partner for William H Brown, part of Sequence’s national network of land centres,” says Andy.
“I believe previous experience working for developers, alongside my knowledge of the land market in south Suffolk and Essex, will be of great benefit to Sequence’s developer clients and I am looking forward to helping them make the most of the current market.”

: :KPMG in East Anglia is strengthening its tax services to local businesses with the appointment of associate tax partner Stuart Wilkinson.
Stuart has more than 17 years’ experience in tax leading both compliance and advisory services to his clients across a range of issues including UK and international structuring projects and is a member of KPMG’s merger and acquisition tax team, having specialised in this area for most of his career advising both corporates and funds.
He will join the regional practice this month, to take on a general tax leadership role, across both the Cambridge and Ipswich offices, including managing a programme of activity working with high growth businesses in the region.
He will work alongside the indirect, private wealth and corporate tax teams currently based in the region.
