As of 6pm, 302 homes remain without electricity in Suffolk and 929 in Essex - down from 542 and 1,256 respectively only two hours ago.

Engineers are currently working on problems affecting larger numbers of customers.

A UK Power Networks spokeswoman said that if power is still off at midnight, it is likely to remain off on Christmas Day, and that those affected should consider making contingency plans.

The company is offering to buy Christmas dinners for anyone whose power has not been restored, and is appealing for restaurants with spare tables to come forward.

Venues should contact SDCSupportContact@ukpowernetworks.co.uk or call 0800 028 0959. Anyone suffering with a power cut who has not yet reported it should call 0800 783 8838.

Are you one of those affected by the power cut, or do you know someone without power? Send an email to newsroom@archant.co.uk or call 01284 727411.

  • Ha ha ha - fallen tree?? We had a 50 - 60 foot one come down at work in the last gale, in full view from a main road half a mile from the town centre, narrowly missing our works canteen by about 2 feet and not one mention in this paper!! It sat there for 2 weeks - must have some very observant local reporters on the team.
