A12: Northbound carriageway blocked as lorry overturns into a ditch, leaving driver trapped and unconscious

A lorry has overturned into a ditch alongside the A12 this morning.

There are delays on the A12 northbound carriageway near junction 31, the A12 entry sliproad from Holton St Mary is partially blocked and a rolling block has been implemented by police on the main carriageway.

The accident occurred around 7.40am this morning and the police, ambulance crews and firefighters attended.

The driver of the Iveco lorry was left unconscious and trapped. It is believed the man, in his 40s, collapsed at the wheel. He was taken to Colchester General Hospital in a land ambulance and his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

It is understood the fire service attended as a precaution due to the lorry’s load.
