A building designed to house the archive of Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears is in line for an award recognising architecture and the difference it has made in the community.

The Britten-Pears Archive, deigned by Stanton Williams and opened last July, is among 79 projects up for either a Civic Trust award, commendation or community recognition.

Earlier this week it was revealed that the building in Aldeburgh is also up for a regional Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) award in Design Through Innovation.

The building houses music manuscripts, letters, photos and recordings for the Britten–Pears Foundation (BPF) in a temperature-controlled chamber.

Communications director Kevin Gosling said the BPF was “thrilled” with the nomination.

The Civic Trust awards ceremony is on March 7 in Blackpool.
