A family history researcher who documented the stories behind two Suffolk war memorials is preparing for a fundraising challenge in aid of the Army’s national charity.

Simon Last, who wrote books on memorials in Aldeburgh and Framlingham, is set to walk 75 miles between France and Belgium, representing the Suffolk Regiment in support of ABF The Soldier’s Charity.

The challenge, supported by Ancestry.co.uk and scheduled for October 15-19, will mark the 100th anniversary of the first Battle of Ypres.

Mr Last, who runs Charnwood Genealogy in Southend but was born in Suffolk, plans to stop at the many memorial sites between Northern France and Ypres. You can sponsor Mr Last at justgiving.com/simonivanlast.
