BRAVE Boxing Day swimmers lined the shingle beach at Aldeburgh for a bracing fundraising dip in the North Sea.
Dozens waded out to blow away the Christmas cobwebs yesterday morning in aid of charities, including Medecines Sans Frontiers (MSF), which targets emergency aid for war-torn countries.
The swim has been held in front of the Moot Hall every year since 1988, when a group of fundraisers took the plunge for earthquake-hit Armenia.
Last year’s swim raised more than �2,000 and organisers were hoping to top that total this time round. Meanwhile more than �40,000 was raised by hundreds of hardy swimmers plunging into the sea in Felixstowe, taking part in the most successful Christmas Day Dip ever.
More than 500 brave supporters waded into the chilly North Sea for the ninth annual event held in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice.
Organiser Emily Sullivan thanked sponsors for their generous support, the local coastguard for overseeing the event, mayor of Felixstowe Mike Deacon for attending, and all the volunteers who gave up their time on Christmas Day.
