A Suffolk cinema projectionist, believed to be the oldest in the country still working, has been handed a prestigious award for his many years of work.

Neville Parry, who has been at the Aldeburgh Cinema for more than 40 years, was granted lifetime honorary membership of the East Anglian branch of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts.

The 81-year-old, whose career has spanned the reel-to-reel period and the digital age, has been helping to enhance the East Suffolk Decorative and Fine Arts Society’s lectures at Aldeburgh Cinema with pictures and sound for the last 35 years.

Society president Shelley Cowlin joined chairman Alan Eklid in rewarding Mr Parry for his work.

Mr Eklid has launched a project to make a documentary, in association with the Suffolk College’s media department, to record Mr Parry’s stories of being a projectionist.
