A postman has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by a car while he was delivering mail.
Police were called to the crash at around 10am in Halstead Road, in Aldham, near Colchester.
The postman, 55, was on foot when he was struck by a Toyota Yaris which was travelling toward Halstead. He has been airlifted to the Royal London Hospital with serious head and leg injuries.
A police spokesman said the driver of the car, a 66-year-old man from Colchester was shocked but otherwise uninjured.
Royal Mail spokeswoman, Valerie Antoine, said “Royal Mail can confirm that one of its postmen was seriously injured earlier today while delivering mail in the Aldham area near Colchester.
“We are assisting the police in their investigation. Our thoughts are with the postman’s family, friends and colleagues at this time.”
