Aldringham: Animals congregate for annual service in churchyard

All creatures great and small turned out for an animal service held in a Suffolk churchyard.
As a celebration of God’s creation, the hymns sung included All Things Bright and Beautiful, All Creatures of our God and King, and Morning Has Broken.
Reverend Sheila Hart directed the diverse gathering, and blessed each of the five sheep, two cats, one rabbit, and 18 dogs - including one boisterous basset hound - by name.
The ceremony takes place on the first Sunday of August every year, at St Andrew’s Church in Aldringham.
“It was about how wonderful it is to have animals, to bless the animals, and to be sorry for the ones who aren’t being looked after properly,” said the church warden, Jo Vallance.
The service raised £102 for the Suffolk Wildlife Trust.
