Arsonists destroyed a children’s playground in Colchester at the start of the half term holiday.

Police are investigating the incident in James Parnell Drive, on the Solus estate in Berechurch, which happened at 10.30pm on Friday.

The fire damaged a number of pieces of play equipment, including a slide.

Nearby resident Christopher Aldous said: “It is such a shame.

“My two daughters are gutted, especially as it is half term.”

Colchester MP Sir Bob Russell also said he was “shocked” at the actions of the vandals.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Essex Police officers at Colchester on 101. People can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
