Firefighters rescue woman stuck in mud in Badwell Ash

A young girl has been rescued by Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service after sinking into mud at a disused quarry.

A water rescue vehicle, emergency rescue tender and fire appliance from Bury St Edmunds were sent to Back Lane in Badwell Ash just after 7pm this evening following reports of the girl, believed to be just 12-years-old, getting stuck up to her waist.

A volunteer doctor from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service charity was sent to the incident and the East of England Ambulance Service was also called.

The young girl is reported to have been playing with friends when she slipped into the disused quarry pit.

She was freed using air lance to release suction.

The girl suffered only minor injuries and she was able to return home without having to go to hospital.
