As Sport Relief arrives this weekend it’s not just humans getting in on the fundraising action.
The Suffolk Canine Country Club in Barrow near Bury St Edmunds hosted a special swimathon for dogs earlier this week.
German shepherd Diesel, cocker spaniel Harry and labrador Gus all swam laps in the run up to the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games.
Mark Grovesmith, owner of Suffolk Canine Country Club, said: “I am so pleased that some of my regular dogs have been able to show their support for Sport Relief this year.
“It’s a great cause, helping people here in Suffolk and across the world and I hope that loads of people take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Swimathon this weekend – if the dogs can do it then so can we!”
Mark Harding, chairman of the Canine Hydrotherapy Association, said: “Dogs can’t take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Swimathon but we wanted to do something to show our support and encourage our two-legged friends to do their bit.
“Hydrotherapy is a great way to keep dogs fit and healthy but not all of them take to the water immediately.
“You too can take on the challenge and enter the swimathon, the most important thing is to get sponsored and raise some vital cash.”
The swimathon events are dog-free zones, but their human companions can find and enter one of the hundreds of events taking place across the UK by visiting sportrelief.com. Those preferring dry land can opt to run or pedal at the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile or Cycle instead.
