Archant

A man sustained cuts, bruising and swelling to his head and face when he was assaulted in Beccles early yesterday morning.

The attack took place around 1.50am in London Road where the 41-year-old was walking with a friend.

They became aware of two men walking behind them and as they approached the junction with Alexandra Road, one of the two men following called out, causing the victim to turn around. As he did so he was struck on the head with a bottle.

He fell to the ground and was attacked by one of the men. The other dragged the offender off the 41-year-old and both ran away.

The victim and his friend made their way to Beccles Police Station where he was checked over by ambulance personnel who found he had sustained injuries including a graze to his head and swelling to his eyes and nose.

The offender is described as white, in his 20s, around 5ft 9ins to 6ft tall and of athletic build. The man he was with is described as white, of similar age, more than 6ft tall, of athletic build and with fair hair that was short at the back and sides. Because of terminology used during the incident it is thought that both are members of the military – possibly the Army.

Police are asking anyone who saw the incident or anyone with information about those involved to call Waveney CID on 101.
