Borough council bosses will be monitoring the weather hourly as the predicted arrival of a fearsome storm approaches.
Regular services like bin collections could be affected if Ipswich feels the full force of unusually strong winds and heavy rain expected to hit the region at about 10pm tonight and continue into the early hours.
Although the worst of the weather is forecast to arrive at about 3am - with gusts of up to 70mph heading to Britain from the Azores - borough council chiefs will be keeping an hourly eye on developments.
An announcement is expected later today on how the weather might alter council services - but people are being advised to check online for updates.
A borough spokesman said: “Public safety is our overriding priority. Our leaders are monitoring the situation hourly and will decide later what measures we need to take.”
