Both road and rail travel is expected to suffer from disruption during this morning’s rush hour – and operators have made preparations to deal with problems.
Meanwhile electricity distributor UK Power Networks was expected to have engineers on standby to restore any power that is lost.
Rail operator Greater Anglia told passengers that it would updating its website at 4pm on Sunday to give more information about disruption – although a clear picture is unlikely to emerge before the storm hits the region.
The Highways Agency is monitoring the situation on trunk roads – including the A12 in Suffolk and Essex and the A14.
UK Power Networks has declared a system emergency, and cancelled routine repairs on Monday to enable more teams to be available for response work.
It has brought in more people to handle calls and has been speaking to other power companies to boost its repair teams.
The Port of Felixstowe is set to bring in Operation Stack as the cranes at the docks are expected to be out of action for a time.
