A Suffolk village has been left without its only post box following a suspected smash and grab raid.

Police believe a vehicle may have been driven into the wall surrounding the post box in Blaxhall, near Snape, leaving a broken heap of bricks.

The post box has been missing since Tuesday, when the damage was first spotted by a member of the public.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses, or anyone with information, to come forward and help return the post box.

The theft happened at some point between 4.30pm on Monday, May 20 and 3.30pm the following day.

The wall-mounted post box, at the junction of Station Road and Church Road, was apparently then chiselled out of position and removed.

Blaxhall parish clerk Jo Jones said: “It’s a bit of a mystery - and such a shame that things like this happen.

“It’s just unbelievable. The wall has been demolished.

“People living in the village definitely need the post box back.”

It is the second post box to go missing in Suffolk this month, following a similar incident in the village South Elmham St Michael between Bungay and Halesworth.

The red Royal Mail post box was stolen from a verge at the side of the road between 10.30am on Saturday, May 11 and 7am on Monday, May 13.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious or who has any information about either theft should call the local safer neighbourhood team on 101.
