A SUSPICIOUS package was found in Botesdale near Diss yesterday.

Police said a member of the public called them just before 1pm and reported that they had seen an un-usual package in shrubbery along a footpath in The Street.

Officers who attended the incident located the package and contacted the bomb disposal squad for advice.

They placed a cordon around the scene and at around 2pm, residents within a 100m radius were asked to vacate their homes.

A controlled explosion was carried out by the bomb disposal squad on the package, which was eventaully found to be harmless. Residents were able to return to their homes at around 6pm.
