A man charged with the murder of Michael Haastrup in Braintree has appeared before magistrates today in Essex.

Luke Eva, 24, of Avondale Road, Leigh-on-Sea, has been remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court tomorrow follwing an appearance before Chelmsford maagistrates.

Mr Haastrup, 24, was taken to Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, late on April 16, with knife wounds following a disturbance at premises in Cressing Road, Braintree.

He was declared dead at 9am the next day.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death to be a stab wound to the heart.

Mr Haastrup, who lived in Southend, had recently become a father.

A 20-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been bailed pending further enquiries.
