A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of assault after an incident at a restaurant sparked a police manhunt.

Officers were called to the Fontana restaurant in Cattawade, near Brantham, just after 1.40pm yesterday to reports of a man brandishing a knife.

When they arrived police found are said to have found a man outside the restaurant with a head injury.

The suspect had apparently fled towards Manningtree.

The police helicopter and several police vehicles were sent the scene, and a search began.

The suspect was reported to have been found in an area between Cattawade Street and the river at just before 4.25pm.

He was taken to Martlesham police investigation centre where he was being held last night.

The injured man was treated in hospital, although a police spokesman said his injuries were not believed to be serious.

A Chrysler PT Cruiser crashed into the Thai Pavilion Restaurant in Friars Street, Sudbury, today (April 28).

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving in connection with a crash between two lorries and a car today.

The mother of a 21-year-old killed in a crash at the same spot which claimed the life of a teenage girl this month has called for a lower speed limit on the road.

Firefighters had to remove a chimney pot after a blaze spread from a woodburner at a Suffolk home today.

There is further evidence that drivers in Suffolk are taking more notice of the region’s speed limits after figures showed that the number caught on the A12 has fallen by near two thirds over the last year.

Police carried out searches on the A140 at Diss today as the investigation continues into the disappearance of Essex man Nigel Kedar.

A Suffolk museum, only open for a few months, is now set to compete with the likes of the Tate Modern for the title of Museum of the Year.
