A 49-year-old man has been bailed today after a break-in at an Ipswich jewellers netted valuables worth more than £90,000.

Police responded to an alarm at around 3.30am today at J G Andrews in the Buttermarket at the junction of St Stephen’s Lane. Offenders had forced a shutter and smashed a window before stealing jewellery from inside.

Officers contacted CCTV operators and a man was located nearby and arrested.

The man, who is from the Ipswich area, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and questioned at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre before being released on police bail until May 15.

Police were at the scene this morning.

Officers are hunting another man seen in the area who may have been involved in the burglary.

The jewellery taken has yet to be recovered.

Although the value of the items stolen is still being totalled up, it is understood to be in excess of £90,000.
