A boy was in hospital today after the air ambulance was called to an incident at a school in Bury St Edmunds.

The boy, whose details have not been released, was treated by East Anglian Air Ambulance medics at the unnamed school in the town at around 2.20pm today.

The boy was taken to West Suffolk Hospital. Further details about the incident have not been released.

In a statement issued late on Wednesday night, an East Anglian Air Ambulance spokesman said: “A young boy has been treated by medics from EAAA following an incident in Bury St Edmunds this afternoon.

“Dr Haris Begovic and Critical Care Paramedic Rod Wells were en route back from refuelling at Cambridge Airport when Captain Steve Norris diverted the aircraft and landed in a school playing field just before 2.20pm.

“The young patient was treated at the scene before he was left in the care of the EEAST land ambulance team on scene to convey to West Suffolk Hospital.

“We are unable to release any further information about this incident.”

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said he was not aware of the incident. The East of England Ambulance Service was unavailable for comment.
