A team of football fans have raised £6,000 after completing their challenge of walking to every football club in London in just over two days.

And this fundraising figure is set to rise as they are holding an auction on April 30 at the LP bar and restaurant in Bury St Edmunds.

Neil Hutson, 42, from Bury St Edmunds, underwent the walk of more than 70 miles alongside fellow West Ham supporters Kevin Driscoll, his son Chas Driscoll, Bill Pearson and Sean Clarke at the beginning of this month.

The challenge, which took in 12 London football clubs and started and finished at West Ham, was in memory of Kevin’s father Dennis, who was also a West Ham fan, and died from cancer, related to contact with asbestos, on March 13 last year aged 75.

St Nicholas Hospice Care, based in Bury, will receive 80% of the cash raised as Dennis was cared for there before he passed away at home in Bury and the rest of the money will go to the Bobby Moore Fund which raises money for research into bowel cancer.

Mr Hutson said of the challenge: “It was the hardest thing I have done in my life. It was unbelievable really.”

He said they actually walked nearly 80 miles instead of 73.3 as at one point they went the wrong way.

He added: “I wanted to do something for Dennis because he’s a lovely guy and he used to do a bit of fundraising for the hospice with the darts league, and I just wanted to do something I didn’t think had been done really.”

The group had hoped to set a new Guinness World Record, but Mr Hutson said they had been unable to record every step due to issues with the head camera.

“If we had recorded it we would have probably have made the record, but we abandoned the idea before we started,” he said.

Mr Hutson is now keen to publicise the auction at 7.30pm on April 30 at LP.

Mr Hutson said auction prizes included 23 signed football shirts, a hot air balloon flight and golf lessons. Ex-boxer Dave “Boy” Green is the evening guest.
